Literary Analysis of Young Goodman Brown Many aspects of human nature have changed over the centuries, but one thing that people have in common is the temptation of evil. From Adam and Eve eating fruit from the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden to the Iraqi hijackers who flew two airplanes into the World Trade Centers on September 11, 2001 killing thousands of innocent people, evil has always been a part of this world. Even though I enrolled in the course, I only knew the name of the course, Design it, and I thought it is related to researches on various designing areas. Even when I first attended the class lecture, I could not understand what exactly the topic is. After a while when I first started reading more into the course, I realized that the design thinking is not merely a theoretical course, rather it is something more than that. In this reflective report I will trigger the basic issues and my learning in the design thinking course and discuss my learning from the course and how I applied my learning in real life. Design thinking is an approach that creates creative and pragmatic situations for the issues that may seem a little difficult apparently. During the initial days of the course, I did not know what exactly the course is going to offer me, however, after a while I realized that this course can change my thought process and my attitude, not only to the business processes, but also to daily life. In additional to that, the course work has also taught me about the tools of design thinking which focuses more on the solving of the problem than just finding it. The primary tools of design thinking are also associated with the concepts of patterns and design, cognition and meta-cognition processes. All these processes are interrelated and mutually complementary. Design Thinking Procedure Design thinking can be considered as a practical method which is helpful for providing creative and practical solutions to the problems. It is mostly a kind of solution based thinking which intends to produce the constructive result in future. As stated by (), design thinking is a little different from the scientific methods. Considering the scientific methods, those are mostly related to the hypothesis stating and providing a feedback mechanism which later continues to form a theory or a model. However, on the other hand, design thinking approach can offer the designers to include the contemplation of the primary emotional content of the entire situation. In the scientific methods, the feedback of any event or decision is obtained through the collection of the observational evidences which is also related to the measurable and observable facts, however design thinking tends to consider the feedback after considering the emotional state of the customers about the particular problem a nd their latent and stated requirements while developing the solution for any particular problem. The process of design thinking can also be considered as the way of producing iterative solutions for the social and business issues, especially solutions from the alternative areas. Design thinking tends to recognize and evaluate both the well-known and ambiguous aspects of the existing situation and provides a serious effort for discovering the distinct parameters and a set of alternative solutions that has the possibility of leading to the one or multiple satisfactory objectives and goals. Design thinking also provides alternative solutions to the problems that shed light on the redefinition of the primary issues within the procedure of evolution of the solution and problems. Unlike the analytic thinking, the procedure of design thinking also includes developing the ideas without any such distinct limits while the designer is brainstorming the ideas. This also tends to decrease the fear of failure for the designers and enhances the contribution and participation of a wide array of resources during the ideation and brainstorming phases. Design thinking is concerned with thinking outside the regular ideas where the participant or the designer can try to discover all the ambiguous and hidden elements from the situations and discover the possibly wrong suppositions. The design thinking procedure is also comprised of seven different stages: defining, researching, ideating, prototyping, choosing, implementing and learning. Moreover, it should also be noted that the design is also influenced by the personal choices of the designer; however design thinking can also be considered as the approach that changes the regular thought processes of any individual. Design thinking has four principles, namely, human rule, ambiguity rule, re-design rule and tangibility rule. The human rule is associated with the design activities that are mostly social in nature; therefore this social innovation also associated the thought process to the human point of view. The ambiguity rule refers to the method which preserves the uncertainties through experimenting with the limits the ability and knowledge as it tends to enable the liberty of considering things in a different way. The third rule is the re-design rule which concerns with the results of changing the existing technology and the social situations. In addition to that the tangibility rule refers to the idea that the ideas can be made tangible and it allows the designers in treating people as prototypes. Therefore, it can be understood that design thinking can be both implemented in the designing procedure and in our day to day lives. The learning from the design thinking approach can be applied in the regular chorus. It also offers a thinking approach which is pragmatic and a little different from the conventional way of thinking. Learning from the Design Thinking Course When I first joined the course and started the class, initially I had no idea what I am going to learn or what the course is going to offer me. With my previous working experiences in the designing field, I had realized that the landscape is changing in a fast way within the contemporary business world, therefore the employers and the marketers tend to fix a specific set of expertise and skills so that they can position their brand and gain a competitive edge in the market. Moreover, the increasing capability of information also concerned with the empowerment of the consumers, therefore there are higher possibilities that the flexibility and agility are required for this purpose. Design thinking is a concept that is associated with the design revolution. The business landscape of todays world demands the brands and marketers to be more centered on the customers. Therefore design thinking is mostly creates a beneficial relationship between the consumers and brands. The brands tend to focus more on the requirements of the customers. Moreover design thinking is considered as the idea that is a driver of revolution of the designing genre. I had some previous experiences in the designing field. Initially I did not think to take this up as my career, however later when I started thinking about thinking designing as my professional career, I realized that not having professional course has made my career limited and most importantly amateurish. Therefore this course could have made my resume more interesting to the employers. Creating and designing have been my passion for a long time, however taking those up as a career made me realize the importance of having prof essional degree in the designing field. However, the course not only offered me a quality designing power which is not only limited to the creation of specific objects, but it is also refers to the out of the box thinking of the content. Along with the course, I have realized that the concept of design thinking stands completely different way for developing successful strategy and further organizational change. The concept is also related with the managing, leading, innovating and creating the content because everything can be someway designed. Moreover, I had also learnt a major lesson that design is not only related to the looks. Conventionally it has been related and specifically restricted to the appearances; however, it is not actually that at all. It is somewhat related to crafting something entirely new after shelling out of the traditional and conventional ways. As a matter of fact, design thinking is something that is out of the basic dimensions of individual intelligence. Design thinking has taught me to break the conventional and shallow mentality that we tend to carry and begin inculcating a different outlook that always encourages more innovation. It has also taught me regarding a systematic framework that enhances the implementation of innovation by fostering the organic development ad serve value for the clients. Previously I had thought that creativity should be the primary necessity for the designs, however design thinking has also taught me that the stages in design thinking also includes a sheer observation for learning the other requirements of the customers relating to the constraints and context of any situation. Application of the learning in real life Designing thinking course has been a journey to me. After the learning procedure has ended, I had realized that there are few basic lesions. The most significant thing that I learned from the course is that it is related to doing something innovative and something which may have not associated with us before. Therefore we have to get used to the new and innovative thinking process. I had experienced a long journey what I exactly was and how I used to think about things before and after the course. I had applied this lesson in my life as well. There were several times before while I had not tried to think something innovative, rather something out of the box and dealt with the entire situation in a conventional way. For instance, few months back one of my colleague came up to me and asked me for some life advices. She was facing some trouble in the office, especially with some coworkers. When I came to know about her situation, I was quite sure that the entire situation would go out o f control if she does not take this entire situation out of the office and deal with it. I thought t would be easier for her if she does not comment or make any moves about the troubles she is facing in office, as after a point of time, she herself is going to face all the consequences and at that point of time, no one else will be there with her. However, after I started applying the lessons that I learned from the design thinking course and started thinking things which were not related to us before, then I realized, if she was facing any trouble with her colleagues in the office, she should have immediately contacted the higher authority and report the problem. It is quite baseless to think whether people will be there with us or not before we take a stand for ourselves. Another lesson that I learnt from the design thinking course is that empathy is nothing but a sheer mind state. Being empathetic is very much necessary while we deal with situations. It is very much necessary for us to be empathetic towards various things in our lives, as if we stay in the empathetic state in our life, it will definitely help us in finding better solutions to specific problems in our lives. Sometimes, we do not think about being empathetic and deal with the situations in a harsh way. Therefore it is highly possible that our decisions are harmful to others. It is quite evident from our surroundings, that sometimes we have forgotten to become empathetic and started dealing with the situations. We tend to bypass others feelings and emotions and started materializing every need of our lives. However, the design thinking course has taught me that we should extend out worldview and start thinking about every situation in a different light. We should still have empathy for people in the surroundings. After the course, I had realized there are thousand times while I had neglected small issues for my own desires. I had realized that even if I reach to the highest position of my professional career, I should not be ignoring smaller things in life. In order to establish a compe titive advantage every organizations plans and implements strategies. The aim is to outperform their competitors and gain a higher profit within the industry. A superior competitive advantage can be achieved by creating more values, which in turn depends on the resources and organizational capabilities to utilize these resources (Besanko et al, 2003). Sustainability of the organizational strategies is very essential for long term growth (Cullen and Parboteeah, 2005). Sustainability is critical and it implies that the strategies are not easily attacked or neutralized by the competitors (Aaker, 1989). It also ensures a persistent competitive advantage even if potential entrants or competitors disrupt by imitating or neutralizing the strategies adopted (Barney, 1991). The resource based theory was developed during early 1990s and according to this theory each organization is a pool of resources and capabilities. These resources and capabilities determine the performance and strategies of a company. If organizations start having resources similar to each other, then the value created by these firms will be similar and there will be no competitive advantage in the concerned industry. A resource based view of a firm thrust upon path dependency and heterogeneity. This is because every organization has a unique resource bundle. The theory also argues that to retain a sustainable competitive advantage, a company should have resources and capabilities that are valuable, not substitutable, imperfectly mobile and difficult to imitate. These four resources can lead to differences in the capabilities and the strategies followed by the companies and can be responsible for a sustainable and competitive environment. These characteristics can be reinforced or induced through isolating mechanisms (Rumelt, 1984). These mechanisms are the forces that limit the duplication or neutralization of competitive activities of other organizations. This isolating mechanism consists of two g roups. A Mnemonic Device Can Be Used The beginning development of mnemonic starts with a poet named Simonides of Ceos in fifth century B.C. This mnemonic invented by the Greeks for memory training around 2500 years ago. The Greek lyric poet Simonides, born in 556 B.C., is attributed with inventing mnemonics. His creation have great benefit thought us, many people success is because using this mnemonic method. There do many types of mnemonics device exist and which type works best is limited only by the imagination of each individual learner. Here are the 9 basic types of mnemonics device presented in this paper include Music, Name, Expression/Word, Model, Ode/Rhyme, Note Organization, Image, Connection, and Spelling Mnemonics. Mnemonics are memory devices that help learners remember larger pieces of information, especially in the form of lists like characteristics, steps, stages, parts, phases, etc. Mnemonics device try to transform information into a form that the human brain can remember better than its original form. Although the process of applying this transformation might already aid the transfer of information to long-term memory but this is still benefit to learner. The mnemonic device commonly practice for lists and in auditoryà form, such as short poems,à acronyms, or memorable phrases, but mnemonics can also be for other types of information and in visual or kinesthetic forms. This device use is based on the examination that the human brain more easily remembers many form of information. In our daily, we have to remember everything. In school, we have to remember all the knowledge about subject; in workplace, we have to remember all the information about our task, in order to remember this entire thing we have to find out what method can enhance our memory. In my example, I am hardly to spell mnemonic, so I use the concept of mnemonic device and create my word, which is Mnemonic Notes Effective Memorized on New Ideas Creativity. From my creation, I know that every first letter for every word is Mnemonic. Using this method, we not only can spell out those difficult words and also can remember it. Mnemonic device play an important role in our daily life, although it is important, it still has their limitations or advantages and disadvantages. For the advantage of mnemonic devices is it provide a method to help us recall those information which is difficult to remember. Moreover, it involve rearranging or restructuring information that help our personalize information to become a smart learner. Other than that, it also increases our interest to study by creating my way to learn with information. Lastly, mnemonic devices will help us spend less time on retrieving our information in long term memory when we properly use it. Beside advantages, mnemonic devices also have some limitation. If a person uses mnemonics too frequently, he or she will have confusion on their learning process. For example, we use mnemonic to remember difficult word, but he or she who too extensively using mnemonic will use this method on every word no matter the word is difficult or not. This problem will occur on those who too rely on mnemonics. In addition, this mnemonic device need more time to practice, create and learn. If someone still cannot understand the practice, which mean that he or she is just wasting time to practice it. For the 9 basic types of mnemonics, for the first device that I will introduce is the Music Mnemonics. We will remember the song lyric rather than a reading of poem is because of adding music for the word. The same method we remember the lyric, we can use or practice on our academics. Music can help us recall important detail to main idea and leaner made out a song is just for remember a list of items. In business sector, they also use this device to let customer remember their product when purchasing. For example, McDonald fast food is using a short song to stronger their brand on customer mind, which is Ba Ra Ba Ba Ba, Im lovin it. I am sure that when this music occurs, everyone will know is McDonald. Besides that, we had been practice this device since we are children, which the ABC song. We know that let children remember all this alphabets is very difficult them, so teacher will teach the children this ABC song to let them easily remember all this 26 alphabets. So that using this method, we know the children directly learning all 26 alphabets. In addition, not only on alphabetical, other children are using this method to remember the street name. For example, the children of Japan, Kyoto is using this method to remember their street name in Kyoto. The song is Kyo no tori uta, which is The song of streets in Kyoto. This song purposely is to make people easier to memorize the streets in Kyoto. Continuously, the following mnemonic device will be the Name Mnemonic. This method is using every first letter of each word in a list of item transform to a person name. For example, the color of spectrum is quite difficult for we know the arrangement, so using this method we take every first letter of each word which is, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet, transform to a person name, Roy G. Biv. Third type of mnemonic devices will be the Expression or Word Mnemonic. This device is most popular mnemonic and widely be used. It is taking the first letter of each word in a list is arranged to form a phrase or word. In other word, it is quite similar with Name Mnemonic and the only different will be one is arrange to form people name and other one is arrange to form a word or phrase. For example, in English, the seven coordinating conjunction which are For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So. We take every first letter for each word and become FANBOYS. This is very easy to remember the English coordinating conjunction as FANBOYS rather than remember all the seven word. Moreover, in mathematics, we can remember the metric system prefixes by using this method. The metric system prefixes from largest to smallest will be the Kilo, Hecto, Deka, Base, Deci, Centi, Milli. As we transform to a phrase can be King Henry Died By Drinking Chocolate Milk. Compare to the original, we know that after t ransform, the metric system prefixes is more easily to remember and it is more funny compare to before.

Flattery in Pride and Prejudice Since its composition in 1797, Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice has enjoyed two centuries of literary esteem not because of its witty dialogue or its tantalizing plot, but because of its universal themes that allow modern readers to identify with early Victorian life. Although the novel focuses on the etiquette of courtship, related social rituals are also prevalent throughout the story. William Collins, a rector in Pride and Prejudice, uses excessive flattery to persuade people to look upon him favorably. He even lavishly praises himself to enhance his self-esteem. While the sycophant's peculiar behavior is comical at first glance, its emphasis in the story portends a greater social meaning that is illuminated upon evaluation of his flattery with relevance to the plot. In Pride and Prejudice, Austin suggests through Collins' mannerisms that one flatters others to enlist their future support and one flatters oneself to ensure individual prosperity. Pertaining to others, Austin endows Collins with a motive of personal gain and later removes that objective, establishing a strong correlation between flattery and selfish advantage. As the legal heir to the Bennet family's estate once its patriarch dies, Collins offers unwarranted praise along with his hand in marriage to one of the daughters. Apart from flattering the family to marry one of its girls, his profuse compliments also extend to his wealthy benefactress and also, of course, to himself. However, Collins' compliments toward the family end after he fails to marry on... ...lattery may have academic influence, she allows Collins to smother praise on anything that might prove advantageous to his affluence, from which one may surmise that flattery contributes to personal prosperity in any form. This truth becomes readily apparent upon contrasting Collins' behavior in situations wherein he may or may not have something to gain through flattery. Of course, this mundane reiteration about flattery must be particularly monotonous to a reader who has already demonstrated a profound grasp of literature by deftly maneuvering through and deliberating upon mistakes previous to this point, so it is for that intelligent and sophisticated reader that this paper ends abruptly.
